Liberty's of Regent Street commissioned this piece to mark the department store's 150th anniversary, having opened in 1875 under Arthur Lasenby Liberty with a founding stock of Eastern silks and ornamental art. The store became inseparable from the Aesthetic Movement and later Art Nouveau — Liberty Style remains a recognized term in decorative arts scholarship to this day.
Royal Mint commemorative five-pound crowns in copper-nickel are struck for collectors but carry legal tender status.
