The Falkland Islands has issued penguin-themed coinage for decades, but the King Penguin holds particular local weight — the islands host one of the largest King Penguin colonies in the world at Volunteer Point, a population that has grown substantially since hunting pressure ended in the early twentieth century. This is among the first Falklands issues to carry the effigy of Charles III following the lengthy transition from Elizabeth II coinage that began after her death in September 2022.
