| 正面描述 | Bare-headed effigy of King Charles III facing left, rendered in high relief in the neoclassical portrait style by sculptor Martin Jennings, with the engraver's initials MJ visible below the truncation. The circumferential Latin legend reads CHARLES III · D · G · REX · F · D · with the denomination 5 POUNDS and date 2023 completing the inscription around the field. The portrait is uncrowned and unadorned, presenting a naturalistic likeness of the monarch in the tradition of modern British coinage. |

This piece commemorates the 300th anniversary of George II's birth, issued in the same year Charles III's effigy was introduced across the coinage — making it one of the earliest coins to carry the new portrait in a proof format. George II is often overshadowed by his father and grandson, but he was the last British monarch to personally lead troops in battle, commanding at Dettingen in 1743 during the War of the Austrian Succession.
