Issued to mark the coronation of Charles III on 6 May 2023 — the first British coronation in seventy years — this Jersey crown-format piece was struck by the Royal Mint on behalf of the Bailiwick. Jersey has issued commemorative crowns tied to royal milestones since the 1960s, but the gold-plated proof variant occupies the middle tier of what were typically three- or four-tier product releases designed to maximize collector coverage across price points.
The .999 gold plating over .925 sterling is applied selectively, a technique refined during the commemorative boom of the 1990s. KM#465b distinguishes this from the plain silver proof (465a) and base metal issues.
