Obverse description The note is printed in blue and pink tones with an elaborate guilloche border framing the entire face. At upper centre, the Royal Arms vignette is flanked by two oval medallions lettered 'FIVE', with the bank's charter inscription 'Incorporated by Royal Charter 1746' above. To the left, a seated allegorical figure within a circular vignette appears alongside intricate lathe-work rosettes. The main text block in copperplate script carries the promise to pay, the place and date of issue (Edinburgh), and dual serial numbers, with manuscript signatures of the Accountant and General Manager at foot.
