Bank of Scotland's £5 notes of this period were printed by George Waterston & Sons, an Edinburgh firm better known for stationery and commercial printing than for banknote production — an unusual arrangement that set Scottish commercial bank issues apart from the dominant Thomas De La Rue model favored by most issuers of the time.
Scotland's retained right to issue private banknotes has never been legislatively revoked, and the late 1960s issues like this one predate the 1970 Banking Act discussions that repeatedly raised — and failed to resolve — the question of consolidation. Pick 110 is a short-lived type, superseded within the series by 1969.
