W. & A.K. Johnston and G.W. Bacon Ltd. was primarily a cartographic and geographical publisher that maintained a banknote printing arm — an unusual background for a currency printer, and one that reflects how Scottish note production often relied on firms with broader commercial printing capabilities rather than dedicated security printers.
Two signature combinations appear across the series: Elphinstone paired first with Crawford, then with Watson from December 1952. The transition reflects a change in the Treasurer's office, not the General Manager's — Elphinstone held through the full run.
