Obverse description The upper portion carries the Bank of Scotland arms as a central vignette flanked by "FIVE" denomination panels at left and right, with the date and "EDINBURGH" printed above. The main body bears the bank's name in large letterpress type, below which the promise-to-pay text appears in copperplate script alongside a circular seal watermark at centre. The denomination £5 appears in large figures at lower left and right, with the Cashier's signature and serial number repeated twice, all set against a fine guilloche underprint border.
