Reverse description The reverse depicts a panoramic scene of a performance of Verdi's opera Aida set against the entrance pylons of the Luxor Temple. A single tall obelisk rises prominently in the center of the field between the two massive sloping pylon towers. In the foreground, costumed operatic figures are shown in dramatic poses, including kneeling and reclining characters in ancient Egyptian dress, with additional standing chorus figures to the left, evoking the grand triumphal scene of the opera. The overall composition is rendered in detailed low relief, framed by a decorative beaded and dashed border.
