Obverse description The obverse is dominated by an intaglio portrait of King Charles III facing left, set against a blue and green guilloche underprint with a vignette of a classical building at centre. To the left, a large transparent window contains an ornate oval frame enclosing an image of the Elizabeth Tower (Big Ben) in red and blue, with a smaller portrait of King Charles III below; the window also bears the text 'BANK OF ENGLAND £5' in a circular legend. The Bank of England title in Gothic script and the promise clause appear at upper centre, with the denomination 'Five Pounds' in bold lettering at lower centre-left.
