Jersey's pre-decimal banknote series was produced under the authority of the States of Jersey Treasurer, and this 1963 issue precedes the island's 1972 switch to decimal currency by nearly a decade. De La Rue printed the series in London — unremarkable in itself, except that Jersey's small circulation volumes meant print runs were modest, and notes that actually circulated heavily are harder to find than those that were simply hoarded as curiosities by visitors.

Padgham served as Treasurer of the States from 1952 to 1969, making his signature consistent across the entire pre-decimal pound series.
