Obverse description Printed in blue-grey and orange-brown tones on cream paper, the obverse carries the heading RHODESIAN ISSUE at top centre, with THE STANDARD BANK OF SOUTH AFRICA LIMITED in bold lettering across the upper field. To the left stands an intaglio vignette of a colonial hunter or explorer in period dress, and to the right a classical female allegory with a shovel and livestock in the background, evoking agricultural and pioneer themes. The central panel bears the SALISBURY BRANCH designation, the promise-to-pay text, denomination cartouche reading FIVE POUNDS, the date 3rd Dec. 1932, serial number in two positions, and two manuscript signatures above the printed titles of Accountant and Manager.
