The North and South Wales Bank was founded in Liverpool in 1836, targeting Welsh commercial interests while keeping its operational centre firmly on the English side of the border. By the 1880s it had grown to around forty branches, predominantly across north Wales, before being absorbed into Midland Bank in 1908.
Perkins, Bacon & Petch were the dominant force in secure document printing in Victorian Britain, renowned for their siderographic transfer process — a steel-engraving technique that made plate reproduction highly resistant to forgery. Provincial bank commissions like this one were bread-and-butter work for the firm throughout the mid-to-late nineteenth century.
