| 裏面の説明 | Two lines of Arabic inscription occupy the central field, giving the mint name and regnal year of Sultan Mahmud II. Below the inscription, the Ottoman calendar date 1223 AH (corresponding to 1834 CE in the Gregorian calendar) is prominently displayed. The central device is surrounded by a decorative floral wreath border tied with a ribbon at the base, enclosed within a beaded or dotted inner circle, faithfully imitating the style of the genuine Ottoman issue. |

Monaco struck this piece to circulate in the Levantine trade networks where Ottoman piastres were the accepted medium of exchange. The principality had no formal monetary agreement with the Porte, making this an opportunistic commercial imitation rather than a treaty coinage — produced to profit from the weight-based trust Mediterranean merchants placed in Ottoman silver.
The silver-clad copper construction was the operative deception. A contemporary Ottoman piastre carried genuine silver throughout; this did not.
