| Beschrijving voorzijde | A young oak seedling with lobed leaves rises from a horizontal ground line at center, rendered in fine naturalistic relief. The legend BUNDESREPUBLIK arcs along the upper periphery, while DEUTSCHLAND curves along the lower periphery. The date 2005 appears in the lower field between the ground line and the country name. The overall design echoes the classic Reinhart Heinsdorff motif used on the standard Federal Republic 5-Pfennig coinage. |

Germany demonetized the Pfennig on December 31, 2001, when the euro replaced the Deutsche Mark after over fifty years of circulation. This 2005 brass restrike is a souvenir piece with no legal tender status — the original zinc-core steel 5 Pfennig it evokes was itself a postwar design introduced in 1950, produced continuously until the final DM issues of 2001.
