Beschrijving keerzijde Printed in black on cream paper, the reverse is entirely occupied by a finely rendered landscape vignette in an etching-like style, enclosed within a thin rectangular border. The scene presents a tree-lined riverside path receding into the middle distance, with dense foliage framing both sides and a half-timbered house visible among the trees at centre. The street name inscription appears at the upper edge of the vignette, and the denomination numeral '5' is printed in red at its base.

Opmerkingen

Ballenstedt is a small Anhalt town at the foot of the Harz mountains, better known as the ancestral seat of the House of Ascania than as a monetary authority. This note is Notgeld — emergency small-change scrip issued by municipalities across Germany when metal coinage all but vanished from circulation during and after the First World War. By 1920 the practice was so widespread that local authorities were effectively printing their own fractional currency with minimal central oversight.

5-Pfennig denominations were among the most heavily circulated Notgeld values, and paper examples at this level suffered accordingly.
