Reverse description The denomination numeral '5' appears prominently at the top of the field in bold upright form, above the two-line inscription 'Pfennige / Danzig' rendered in flowing Fraktur blackletter script. The lettering occupies the lower two-thirds of the flan and is the sole design element on an otherwise plain, unadorned field. The Fraktur style lends the inscription a distinctly Germanic character appropriate to the civic identity of the Free City.
