Obverse description The obverse features a central pearl circle enclosing the large numeral '5' denoting the denomination, rendered in bold relief within the plain field. A continuous circular legend in Latin lettering runs between the pearl circle and the outer beaded rim, reading 'STADTGEMEINDE WITTENBERGE' above and 'BEZ. POTSDAM' below, each separated by a six-pointed star. The overall design is austere and functional, characteristic of German municipal notgeld emergency coinage of the First World War period.
