Additional information

Warendorf issued this zinc notgeld piece in 1918 as the German military's wartime requisitioning of copper and nickel left municipal authorities scrambling to keep small change in circulation. Zinc was the fallback — cheap, available, but deeply unpopular with the public for its tendency to corrode and discolor rapidly in handled condition. Most pieces that circulated heavily look it.
