正面描述 Plain field bearing a four-line inscription in bold Latin capital letters reading KRIEGSNOTGELD / DER GEMEINDE / VOHWINKEL / 1918, with the date flanked by two raised dots below. A single raised dot appears above the text and another below the date. The entire design is enclosed within an inner beaded border running close to the raised rim, giving the coin a simple yet functional wartime appearance.

背面描述 Central field displays the large numeral 5 above the denomination legend PFENNIG, the whole enclosed within a wreath of oak branches tied at the base with a ribbon bow. The oak leaves and acorns are rendered in moderate relief, their arrangement meeting symmetrically at the top of the wreath. The design is uncluttered, occupying the full field within the plain rim, consistent with the austere utilitarian style typical of German Kriegsnotgeld coinage of 1918.

附加信息

Vohwinkel was an independent industrial town in the Bergisches Land, later absorbed into Wuppertal in 1929. This piece belongs to the vast wave of municipal Notgeld issued across Germany from 1916 onward as wartime metal requisitions stripped small denominations from circulation — the Imperial government had claimed copper, nickel, and eventually zinc for the war effort, leaving local authorities to fill the gap with whatever iron blanks they could source.

Iron Notgeld of this type corrodes aggressively in anything but dry storage conditions, which accounts for the relative difficulty in finding problem-free survivors.
