Obverse description A beaded inner border frames the central device, which consists of a heraldic shield bearing a rampant lion passant, representing the arms of Rodach within the Duchy of Coburg. A circular legend in raised Latin lettering surrounds the shield, reading STADT RODACH at the top and HERZOGTUM COBURG at the bottom, each separated by a raised dot. The overall design is plain and functional, characteristic of wartime Notgeld emergency coinage.
Obverse script Latin

Reverse description A beaded inner border encloses the central field, which is dominated by a large, boldly struck numeral '5' denoting the denomination. The circular legend KRIEGSNOTGELD arcs across the upper portion of the field, while the date 1918 appears along the lower arc, flanked on either side by a six-pointed star ornament. The design is stark and utilitarian, consistent with the emergency monetary issues of the First World War period.
