Factory scrip from Mechanische Schuhfabrik vorm. Müller & Heinz, a mechanical shoe manufacturer operating in Presseck, a small town in Upper Franconia, Bavaria. These iron notgeld tokens were almost certainly issued during or shortly after World War I, when metal shortages and disrupted currency circulation pushed hundreds of German industrial employers to mint their own small-denomination tokens for wage payments within the factory system. Iron was the material of necessity, not preference.
