Obverse description The municipal coat of arms of Pirmasens occupies the central field, depicting a fortified city gate with crenellated towers and a rampant lion above, all rendered within a square shield. The arms are enclosed by a dotted inner circle, with the surrounding legend reading VERWALTUNG DER STADT and the date 19 18 divided at either side. The city name PIRMASENS appears in the lower portion of the legend, flanked by star ornaments. The overall design is executed in a plain, utilitarian style typical of World War I German notgeld coinage.
