Rudolph Chillingworth A.G. was a Nuremberg metalworking and stamping firm that issued this notgeld piece during the acute small-change shortage of the early 1920s, when municipal and commercial issuers across Germany flooded circulation with privately struck zinc and iron tokens to fill the gap left by hoarded copper and nickel coinage. Chillingworth had the industrial infrastructure to strike their own — a convenience that saved the firm from dealing in scrip paper like most smaller businesses.
