| 背面描述 | Within a beaded rim, the legend 'ELSENTHALER NOTGELD' curves in a semicircle along the upper periphery of the field. The large numeral '5' dominates the center, with the denomination 'PFENNIG' inscribed horizontally across the lower central field. The date '1920' appears along the bottom, completing the design. The plain, functional layout is characteristic of German Notgeld emergency coinage of the early Weimar period. |

Elsenthal is a small settlement in the Bavarian Forest near Grafenau, and the Papierfabrik there issued this zinc notgeld piece during the acute coin shortage that followed Germany's defeat in 1918 — when hoarding and metal requisitions had stripped everyday commerce of usable small change. Factory-issued scrip of this kind was typically redeemable only at the company's own store or canteen, making it a form of tied currency that kept wages circulating within the employer's own economy.
