F. & R. Fischer was a metal goods manufacturer in Göppingen, Baden-Württemberg, one of dozens of private firms pressed into emergency token production during the notgeld crisis of WWI and its aftermath, when acute shortages of small-denomination Reichsbank coinage paralyzed everyday retail transactions. Zinc was the material of necessity — copper and nickel had been requisitioned for the war effort, and what little remained was tightly rationed by the imperial government.
The Menzel reference numbers suggest two catalogued die varieties exist for this type.
