Forbach, a coal-mining town in Lorraine annexed by Germany following the Franco-Prussian War of 1870–71, issued this zinc notgeld piece during the acute metal shortage of 1917, when imperial wartime requisitions had stripped civilian circulation of virtually all copper and nickel coinage.
