| 背面描述 | The reverse repeats the same design as the obverse, featuring the large raised numeral '5' at centre with the split date '19' and '17' flanking its upper shaft. The legend 'STADT DÜREN' curves along the left and lower arc of the field in incuse lettering. The uniformity of both sides reflects the wartime austerity of this Notgeld issue, produced by the municipality of Düren to alleviate a shortage of small coinage. A plain raised rim encircles the design. |

Düren issued this iron notgeld piece in 1917 as the German war economy stripped copper and nickel from municipal circulation, leaving cities to fend for themselves with whatever base metals remained available. Iron was the default solution for dozens of Westphalian and Rhineland municipalities that year, though iron coinage corroded quickly in pocket wear — meaning most surviving examples show surface rust or pitting rather than honest mechanical wear.
