Obverse description The coat of arms of the City of Cham occupies the central field, surmounted by a mural crown. The shield depicts crossed implements over a gate or architectural motif in the lower portion, rendered in relief typical of wartime emergency coinage. The circular legend STADTGEMEINDE above and CHAM below frames the arms, separated by the shield's outline. A continuous pearl border encloses the entire design.

Obverse lettering STADTGEMEINDE CHAM
Reverse description The large numeral '5' is prominently centered in the field, denoting the denomination of five Pfennig. The circular legend KRIEGS - NOTMÜNZE arcs across the upper portion of the reverse, identifying the piece as a wartime emergency coin. The date 1917 appears in the lower portion, flanked on each side by a five-pointed star serving as a decorative separator. The design is unadorned and functional, consistent with the austere character of World War I notgeld issues.
