Additional information

Burglengenfeld's 1917 zinc notgeld was a product of the same wartime metal shortage that stripped German coinage across the board — copper and nickel had been requisitioned for the war effort, leaving municipalities to fill the gap with whatever the Kriegsamt would still permit. Zinc was the compromise: cheap, available, and deeply unpopular in circulation due to its tendency to corrode and stick together in pocket change.

The Funck reference places this among the more systematically catalogued Bavarian municipal issues, suggesting consistent enough surviving populations to establish die attribution.
