Additional information

Burghaslach is a small Franconian village that had no business issuing its own currency — yet by 1917, the German municipal notgeld system had made it a necessity. Wartime metal requisitions stripped copper and nickel from circulation almost entirely, forcing hundreds of German towns, no matter how minor, to produce emergency pfennig coinage in zinc or pressed fiber. Burghaslach's issue is among the more obscure Bavarian municipal pieces, catalogued under three separate reference systems precisely because collectors of German notgeld have documented this fragmented series with unusual thoroughness.
