| Reverse description | Printed entirely in blue on a cream wave-pattern guilloche ground, the reverse is dominated by a large central vignette of the Memmingen civic arms — a quartered shield bearing a lion and a cross, surmounted by a mural crown — set within an oval frame and surrounded by an elaborate foliate and scrollwork cartouche. Two smaller rosette guilloche medallions flank the composition at left and right. The printer's imprint appears in a rectangular panel at the lower centre. |

Memmingen's Stadtmagistrat issued this note as part of the Kleingeldersatz — the small-change substitution system — that proliferated across German municipalities after coin hoarding stripped circulation of anything below 10 Pfennig. Gebrüder Parcus in Munich handled a substantial share of Bavaria's emergency municipal printing during this period, producing consistent if modest work for dozens of town councils simultaneously.
The Gra#M31.1a designation places this within Grabowski's Notgeld classification, useful for distinguishing between the several Memmingen issues that differ by serial placement or ink color rather than any change in authorizing body.
