正面描述 The obverse is printed in black on white paper with ornamental fir-branch corner decorations framing the note. The large word "Gutschein" is rendered in Gothic blackletter script across the top, with the denomination numeral "5" in bold within a circular vignette at centre. To the left, validity text states the note expires three months after public announcement, while to the right the issuing authority, date, and a manuscript facsimile signature of the Magistrat are printed. The town name "Ballenstedt im Ostharz" appears in large Gothic script along the lower margin.

备注

Ballenstedt is a small town in the Harz foothills of Saxony-Anhalt, and its municipal authority — the Magistrat — issued this 5 Pfennig note as part of the broader Kleingeldersatz crisis gripping Germany in 1920. The acute shortage of low-denomination coinage following the war's economic disruption forced hundreds of German municipalities, tramway companies, and merchants to print their own emergency fractional paper. Ballenstedt's issue is among the more obscure, with survival numbers reflecting the town's modest size.
