Triebes was a small industrial town in the Reuss principality — one of the fragmented minor German states absorbed into Thuringia in 1920. This 5 Pfennig note belongs to the vast wave of municipal Notgeld issued across Germany and Austria between 1914 and 1921, driven by a chronic shortage of small-denomination coins as metal was requisitioned for the war effort and hoarding stripped what remained from circulation.
The issuing authority — "Gemeindevorstand," meaning the municipal council — reflects the hyper-local nature of this emergency currency.
