| Opmerkingen |
Delitzsch is a small town in Saxony, and like hundreds of German municipalities in 1917, its Magistrat issued low-denomination Notgeld as metal coinage had effectively vanished from circulation — hoarded by the public or requisitioned for the war effort. The 5 Pfennig denomination was the smallest commonly issued, produced locally with minimal printing sophistication and often on whatever paper stock was available.
These municipal issues were never intended to circulate beyond the immediate locality. By the early 1920s most had been redeemed and destroyed, which gives even routine examples a survival rate far lower than their original print runs suggest.
