| Opmerkingen |
Cubacafé was the state enterprise managing Cuba's coffee sector under the Ministerio de la Agricultura, and these small-denomination peso notes were issued internally as worker incentive scrip — redeemable at company outlets rather than functioning as general currency. The practice of enterprise-issued bonus certificates was a known workaround during the Special Period, when peso wages had collapsed in real purchasing power and the state needed mechanisms to reward agricultural labor without releasing hard currency.
These pieces circulate almost entirely outside Cuba, carried out by travelers. Internal scrip of this kind was rarely saved systematically.
