Obverse description Intaglio-printed note with an oval vignette of President William McKinley at left, set within an intricate guilloche border with acanthus leaf ornamentation at the corners. A large red underprint dominates the centre, incorporating a bold Roman numeral V and the text PHILIPPINE ISLANDS / FIVE SILVER PESOS above the bearer clause, with the denomination numeral 5 rendered in large figures at lower left and right. A blue circular seal of the Philippine Islands is affixed at right, bearing two manuscript signatures of the Civil Governor and Treasurer below the main legend.
