Obverse description The Guatemalan national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a quetzal bird perched atop a scroll inscribed with the independence date LIBERTAD 15 DE SETIEMBRE DE 1821, flanked by crossed rifles and swords, and enclosed within a wreath of laurel and oak branches tied at the base with a ribbon. The circumferential legend REPUBLICA DE GUATEMALA arcs along the upper rim within a beaded border. The mint year 1894 appears in the exergue below the arms.
