Uruguay's 1930 centenary of independence generated a cluster of pattern issues that never advanced to circulation, this 5 Pesos among them. The broader commemorative program did produce struck gold for the market, but several denominations remained at the essai stage — proposed, struck in small numbers for official examination, and shelved.

KM#E14 is known in extremely limited quantity, almost certainly struck at the Casa de Moneda de Uruguay in Montevideo.
