| 表面の銘文 | REPUBLICA DE COLOMBIA PAZ 1907 (Translation: Republic of Colombia) |
| 裏面の説明 | The denomination 5 PESOS is displayed prominently in two lines at the centre of the field, with the currency abbreviation p/m (papel moneda) inscribed below in a cursive style. The central legend is enclosed within a finely detailed laurel wreath tied at the base with a ribbon, with the mint mark A.M. (Casa de Moneda de Bogotá) appearing in small letters at the bottom of the wreath below the ribbon. A beaded border runs along the outer rim. |

These coins were authorized under Colombia's monetary reform following the catastrophic Thousand Days War (1899–1902), a civil conflict that had so thoroughly wrecked the national economy that the government had issued paper currency — "papel moneda" — in quantities that rendered it nearly worthless. The denomination name itself is a direct reference to that inflated paper money, with these copper-nickel pieces assigned a fixed equivalence to the discredited notes as part of the stabilization effort.
Multiple Hernández references (321, 322, 323) indicate die or date varieties across the production span — worth examining closely before cataloging individual pieces.
