The Banco Central de la República Dominicana was itself newly established — founded in 1947, the same year this note was issued — replacing the earlier Banco de Reservas as the country's central monetary authority. These first emissions were essentially institutional declarations, putting paper behind a bank that had existed on paper only weeks before.
ABNC's engraved work on the Dominican series of this period is among the finer examples of mid-century Western Hemisphere note printing. The intaglio quality holds up well under scrutiny.
