5 Pesos La Iglesia

Part of Mexico's long-running "Templos y Monumentos Prehispánicos" series, this issue draws on a program that the Casa de Moneda has sustained across multiple decades to document pre-Columbian architectural sites in silver. La Iglesia — "The Church" — is one of the principal structures at Chichén Itzá, its Spanish colonial nickname applied by early explorers who mistook its multi-chamber summit for a Christian ecclesiastical floor plan. The building dates to the Terminal Classic period, roughly 800–900 AD.

KM#946 was produced in proof format with a mintage controlled tightly enough that secondary market premiums have remained consistent since issue.
