Obverse description The obverse features the Mexican national coat of arms at center, depicting a Mexican golden eagle perched on a prickly pear cactus atop a rock rising from a lake, devouring a serpent in its beak, with an oak and laurel wreath tied at the base. The central device is set within an oval sunken field and surrounded by a decorative border of pre-Columbian geometric motifs. The arc legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS runs around the upper portion of the coin. Below the central device, two lines read I ONZA DE PLATA and LEY 0.999, denoting the silver content and fineness.
