KM#805 belongs to the long-running Mexican cultural series issued by the Casa de Moneda beginning in the 1990s, commemorating pre-Columbian sites and traditions. The juego de pelota — the Mesoamerican ballgame — is among the oldest organized sports in human history, with archaeological evidence of formal courts dating back over 3,000 years. Losers, and in some accounts winners, were sacrificed at certain ceremonial sites.
