| Obverse description | The center of the obverse features the Mexican national coat of arms rendered in high sculptural relief, depicting the eagle perched on a cactus devouring a serpent, encircled by the legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS. Surrounding the central shield in a decorative border are reproductions of the various iterations of the national arms used throughout Mexican history, as well as the eagle motif taken from the central section of the first page of the Codex Mendoza. The overall composition reflects a deeply patriotic and historical artistic program, blending modern minting technique with pre-Columbian iconographic references. |
