Ignacio Allende was among the first conspirators arrested and executed in 1811 after the royalist interception of the independence plot — his severed head was displayed in a cage on the Alhóndiga de Granaditas in Guanajuato alongside Hidalgo's for nearly a decade. Mexico's ongoing bicentennial commemoration of independence prompted this circulation issue, part of a broader series honoring figures who did not survive to see the republic they set in motion.
