The Hombre Jaguar series drew from Totonac sculptural traditions of the Gulf Coast, a deliberate choice by the Casa de Moneda to cycle pre-Columbian iconography through its bullion program rather than default to Aztec motifs, which had dominated earlier Mexican silver issues. The series ran only three years before rotating out.
KM#596 is occasionally confused with the broader Libertad program by newer collectors, but it belongs to a separate commemorative-bullion category with distinct mintage structures. Mexican mint records from this period are inconsistently published, making precise annual mintage figures difficult to confirm across all three dates in the run.
