Obverse description Black intaglio print on red and yellow underprint, with red serial numbers. At left, a vignette of the Monumento a Hidalgo in Pachuca (1888, sculptor Cayetano Tangassi); at right, an interior scene of a mine workings. The overall design is characteristic of American Bank Note Company engraving of the period.

Reverse description Printed entirely in red, the reverse is dominated by a central oval vignette of a panoramic view of Pachuca, Hidalgo, framed by elaborate guilloche scrollwork. Large numeral 5 denominators appear at left and right within ornamental panels, and the bank name is split across the top and bottom banners flanking the central vignette. The printer's imprint of the American Bank Note Company, New York, appears at the lower margin.
