At upper centre, the bank title 'El Banco Rio Cuarto' appears in bold serif lettering alongside a serial number. To the left, a large vignette of a stag's head with antlers occupies the corner, while at centre a pastoral river scene shows a figure paddling a canoe. At lower right, a classical female allegorical figure is rendered in fine intaglio engraving. El Banco Rio Cuarto was a provincial Argentine bank operating out of Córdoba province, and this 1874 note is among the earliest documented issues from that institution. The National Bank Note Company of New York was the dominant supplier of engraved banknotes to South American issuers throughout the 1870s, when local printing infrastructure was simply not capable of producing secure currency-grade work.
The denomination in pesos bolivianos reflects the currency standard then prevalent across much of interior Argentina before the peso moneda nacional was consolidated as the unified unit in 1881. PS#1826 is sparsely represented in major collections, suggesting limited original issue volume or heavy attrition through use and redemption.
