正面描述 Green and purple note with the bank's title 'EL BANCO J. BENITES É HIJO' across the top. A central oval portrait vignette shows a bearded gentleman in formal 19th-century attire, flanked to the left by an allegorical female figure in an ornate guilloche-bordered vignette with the word 'CINCO' repeated vertically. The place of issue 'GUALEGUAYCHU' and date 'ENERO 1º DE 1867' appear below the portrait, with the manuscript promise text 'Pagará al portador y á la vista CINCO PESOS BOLIVIANOS' in the lower register above a manuscript signature.

备注

Banco J. Benites é Hijo was a private commercial bank operating out of Gualeguaychú, Entre Ríos province — one of dozens of provincial Argentine banks that issued their own notes during the fractured monetary period before the Banco Nacional was established. The 1867 date places this squarely in the middle of the Paraguayan War, when currency circulation across the Río de la Plata region was severely disrupted and private paper was often the only practical medium of exchange in provincial towns.

Locally printed notes from Gualeguaychú of this vintage are genuinely rare survivors. Most provincial Argentine private issues were redeemed or simply discarded as the national banking system consolidated through the 1870s.
